Made in Dixon inspires and delights!

Made in Dixon is a diverse exhibition that features brilliant creations from the Dixon’s many in-house and outreach programs. This is our fourth Made In Dixon. The first exhibition had only 20 paintings from our Art to Grow program and was installed in the Menke Lounge. 

Boy, has this exhibition grown since 2008. We have now included artworks from many of our educational programs including Mini Masters, Kaleidoscope Club, Art Zone, Summer Camp, Spring to Art Camp, Dixon Discoveries, Family Days, Reflections through Art, Exceptional Art and many of our special workshops throughout the year.

Made In Dixon is just a window into what the education department does at the Dixon every year. In 2011, our education staff provided 35,523 educational experiences to people of all ages! This number continues to grow and we are excited and inspired by all of those we reach.

It's not just proud parents and interested youngsters enjoying the over 100 artworks installed this year. Dixon visitors are overwhelmed and delighted to see our young local Memphians highlighted with their work on view in our galleries.

Made In Dixon is our way of thanking the community for their support. Come by and see the show before it closes Sunday, April 8.

The Dixon welcomes Spring this week!

We've been welcoming the warm weather for some time now. But with this week marking the official beginning of spring, we can't help but want to share even more of what is in bloom at the Dixon.

There are more then just flowers blooming, our galleries are full of interesting and beautiful artworks for all audiences. Lee Littlefield sculptures are here!!!

Lee Littlefield's colorful and playful sculptures are installed and already thrilling each visitor that visits the Dixon property. 

These unexpected bursts of blues, greens, oranges, and pinks can be seen at the entrance, in the gardens, and even on the roof of the Dixon residence. 

The sculptures were installed Thursday and Friday morning using man power from garden staff and Littlefield's handlers. Thursday was very gloomy but the sculptures brightened the day right up! Check out a video of the process here!

Even the truck that transported the sculptures looked bright and fun, and most of the sculptures were not even unwrapped yet.

Littlefield was a narrative painter for thirty years before moving toward sculpture in 1983. Littlefield has said that "the look of both my indoor and outdoor sculptures lies between reality and the Little Shop of Horrors." 

We can't wait for you to visit the Dixon and see these exciting sculptures in person. Littlefield's indoor sculptures will open on April 15 and offer even more bayou inspired colorful creations.
